In 2015 I was at a bar where I had played many times before on New Year’s. I remember just kind of looking out in the crowd and singing my same songs I’d played for a very long time. And I started to count down from ten to ring in the new year. And I was just kind of reflecting and I looked back on how many years I had actually been a cover artist and how many times I had tried out for auditions and how many churches I’d sang at and just how much I had done. Everything in me was gone. I felt completely empty and broken and I remember just feeling like “you can’t do this anymore, man. Like you’re unbelievably unhappy and you have absolutely nothing left in you to give.” I just told myself “I’m done.”

I remember driving home that night just mad and I just began to pray and to ask God just for revelation and clarity as to what it is that I’m supposed to be doing. And I realized that I had honestly just been chasing my own thing, like my own dreams and my own ambitions. And I started to kind of realize how many years I had lived for me and how many years I hadn’t sought after God and I hadn’t pursued him and I hadn’t asked him for anything. I had literally just taken almost, and just been so focused on what it is that I needed and what I wanted, that I didn’t focus at all on what he wanted. It’s when we fully surrender that God starts making moves. I feel a lot more fulfilled and happy knowing that I’m living in alignment with God’s purpose for my life.
