Verse 1
You bared your wrists to the nails
Your brow to the thorns
Surrendered, gave it all
Took the cup to your lips
And drank to the dregs
The judgement meant for me
Pre-chorus 1
Oh the deep deep love
Oh the cleansing blood
Mercy measureless and free
O be still and know, that all is well
The cross has spoken
Verse 2
Your body laid in the grave
Three dark silent days
As earth and heaven mourned
But the love of that cross
Is stronger than deathY
ou rose to life again
Pre chorus 2
Curse to blessings turn
Thorns to flowers bloom
Sin and death are led in chains
So be still and know, that all is well
The cross has spoken
Middle 8
Oh, the cross has spoken
Oh, the cross has spoken
Verse 3
So here I lay down my shame
My pride and my pain
Surrender, leave it all
One with You I have died
With You I will rise
To everlasting day
Pre chorus 3
Oh the deep, deep love
Oh the cleansing blood
Mercy measureless and free
So be still my soul, for all will be well
The cross has spoken
Middle 8
Oh, the cross has spoken
Oh, the cross has spoken
Oh, the cross has spoken
Oh, the cross has spoken

Co-written over several months during 2021, the song has a hymnal quality and poetically retells the journey of calvary.
Speaking of the song, Graham says: “I was quietly meditating on the meaning of the crucifixion and in my mind’s eye I saw Christ baring his wrists to the nails and his brow to the thorns – but not as a victim. It was an act of total, surrendered worship to the Father. Until that moment in history, a cross spoke only of the cruel triumph of oppressive power, of suffering, of the end of hope. But in holy love, Jesus seized that moment, subverted and transformed it, made it speak a whole different language, transforming it into a symbol of selfless love, of life out of death and the hope of all creation made new! It has been a delight writing a song of this nature with Lucy. She has such a sensitivity to the Spirit and an instinct for how lyric, melody and harmony combine to communicate. We hope the song creates a moment in which you can encounter more of the mystery of the cross.”
Lucy says: “It is a huge honour to work with Graham. His energy for songs and his passion to find fresh ways to retell ancient gospel truths is second to none. During the writing process for The Cross Has Spoken, we worked hard to sift through ideas, sit with scripture and do our utmost to pen a song that honours the enormity of the cross and that serves the body of Christ.”
