'INVISIBLE, HOPE GROWS" - A POEM BY JOHN MARK MCMILLAN
Invisible, hope grows
Even while the powerful sleep
Maybe she calls to us from the margins
From the other side of our fences and castle walls
Would you know her if she knocked on your door?
Would you see her in her fragile state?
Would you welcome her in?
Or have you no room?
Is your heart too heavy?
Hands too full?
Would you send her away?
To be discovered by the graveyard shift, wandering stargazers, hopeless dreamers, the broken, and the beasts...
Well, this is the audience of angels
Even while the powerful sleep
Invisible, hope grows
Hidden in plain sight, timid and weak
But like a woman, early with child
The world appears quite the same
Still her universe has fundamentally shifted
A new trajectory has been drawn
A new day begins to dawn even
In the darkest violence of hateful night
Invisible, hope grows
Under the nose of presidents, priests, and kings…
Invisible, hope grows
Even while the powerful sleep
