Make it Soon from 1974 album Paid on the Nail by singer/songwriter Graham Kendrick.
A hopeful and anticipatory song that reflects on the promise of Christ’s return and the coming of His kingdom. The lyrics express a longing for the day when peace will reign on earth and all idols will crumble. The song acknowledges the turmoil in the world, from wars to the emptiness of false pursuits, and contrasts this with the certainty of a better day when Christ will come.
The song draws on biblical imagery of the end times, describing cosmic signs and the return of the Son of Man with power and glory. Amidst the chaos and conflict, it serves as a prayerful plea for Christ to bring His peace soon, affirming the hope and certainty of His ultimate victory and the restoration of all things.
Originally released on the Key Records label, ‘Paid on the Nail’ was Graham’s third album and a landmark in his ministry.
It continued the acoustic/folky style which had been Graham’s hallmark in his earlier recordings but also introduced a wider variety and subtlety of arrangements and other instruments including Peter Roe on the Moog synthesiser. The songs were written while Graham was part of a team ministry called ‘In the name of Jesus’ who engaged in evangelism and church renewal around the UK.

O, my Lord, sure as sure, I know your day will come
Your bright morning will bring peace on earth at last.
O, my Lord, it’s gonna be such a good day.
Make it soon, make it soon.
O, my Lord, when I see millions reaching out
While their idols turn to dust between their hands
O, my Lord, it’s gonna be such a good day
Make it soon, make it soon.
O, my Lord, when I see soldiers loading guns
Fixing bayonets that shine in midday sun
O, my Lord, It’s gonna be such a good day
Make it soon, make it soon.
When you hear of wars and rumours of wars
Do not be alarmed
This must take place but the end is not yet
For nation will rise against nation
And kingdom against kingdom
And the sun will no longer shine
In those days, after that tribulation,
The sun will be darkened
The moon will not give its light a
And stars will be falling from heaven
And the powers in the heav’ns will be shaken
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds
With great power and glory.
O, my Lord, sure as sure, I know your day will come
Make it soon, make it soon.
Make it soon, make it soon.
